MOISTURIZERS: OCCLUSIVES AND HUMECTANTS
There are two principal preparations intended for preserving the moisture of the skin:
occlusives
humectants
Occlusives
Occlusives produce an oily layer on the skin, enriching the skin’s natural lipid film, which prevents water evaporation. The keratinous layer dampens, becoming more fully saturated with water.
These products are more effective if applied directly after washing, trapping a layer of water beneath them. Substances such as the following can be used:
Mineral-derived fatty compounds such as paraffin or petroleum jelly (the most common mineral source is crude oil, from which various oils can be derived after refining). Cetomacrogol is another occlusive, mineral-derived compound that can be found in various moisturizers. Moisturizers based mainly on minerals are highly effective, but they are sticky and greasy. They are intended for people with very dry skin or for those having certain skin medical problems.
Substances derived from animal fat, such as lanolin and its derivatives (derived from sheep’s
wool).
Vegetable oils such as olive oil, oat oil, peanut oil, sesame seed oil, and many others. Vegetable oils are less occlusive than animal-derived oils or mineral oil, yet allow sufficient occlusion.
Note:
Oily products all function in the same way, preventing water evaporation fromthe superficial layers of the skin. There is no significant difference among the various fatty products derived from animals. None have any proven age-reversing abilities. Oils derived from rare animals are not superior, and their use is only an uncalled-for commercial gimmick. Some moisturizing products contain a substance called spermaceti, which is produced from whales. The use of these products is prohibited in the United States. Those consumers who have reservations about the killing of whales should avoid using products containing this substance. One can read the label of contents on the product to ensure that it does not contain spermaceti
Remember that occlusive products tend to be sticky and oily, so consumers will generally refrain from using products that appear in an oilier form (such as an ointment). Therefore, these products are generally combined as creams or lotions (which have a greater water content). These are easier to apply and are preferred by most consumers. After water evaporation, the occlusive components that remain will protect the skin and fulfill their function..
Humectants
Humectants absorb water. This group includes numerous substances, some of which are able to penetrate the keratinous layer and increase its water content. Other products from this group have large molecules that do not penetrate the keratinous
layer, but form a hygroscopic (water-absorbing) layer on the skin. The effectiveness of several
of these products is debatable. In a relatively arid environment, they may actually absorb water
from the skin (rather than the environment), causing increased dryness. On the other hand, in
a humid environment, they are clearly efficient. In conclusion, their efficacy is not as great as
occlusive products in a cold, dry environment. Therefore, an efficient moisturizer suited to cold,
dry weather, should contain a combination of occlusives and humectants.
In daily usage, moisturizing cosmetics made only from water-absorbing substances are
called nonoily moisturizers.
From a practical point of view, the various approaches to skin moisturizing are not distinctly
segregated. Most moisturizers have a number of components from each group. They
usually contain occlusive, oily products along with humectants. In addition, a number of the
components have a combined effect: lanolin and its derivatives, for example, are occlusives but
they have a certain degree of absorptive capacity as well.

Natural Cleaning products you can make at home
To clean your oven, use a mixture of ammonia and water. The solution may be stored in a spray bottle. For tough stains, apply a mixture of baking soda and water directly to the stains, and let the mixture stand for several minutes before wiping.
To remove furniture polish build-up on your furniture, mix 1/2 cup water and 1/2 cup vinegar. Moisten a soft cloth with the mixture and wipe furniture clean.
Baking soda can be used to remove crayon marks from walls and painted furniture. Sprinkle on a damp sponge and scrub gently so you don’t damage the paint or wallpaper.
To clean all types of woodwork, make a mixture of 2 tablespoons vegetable oil, 4 tablespoons white vinegar, and 1 quart warm water. Apply with a soft cloth and dry with a separate, clean cloth.
Window and glass cleaner: Mix 1 tablespoon vinegar or lemon juice with 1 quart water, 2 tablespoons cornstarch, 1/2 cup white vinegar, and 1 gallon water.

Sensible Diet Tips
Start your diet with a food diary, record everything you eat, what you were doing at the time, and how you felt. That tells you about yourself, your temptation, the emotional states that encourage you to snack and may help you lose once you see how much you eat.
Instead of eating the forbidden piece of candy, brush your teeth. If you're about to cheat, allow yourself a treat, then eat only half a bite and throw the other half away. When hunger hits, wait 10 minutes before eating and see if it passes. Set attainable goals. Don't say, "I want to lose 50 pounds." Say, "I want to lose 5 pounds a month." Get enough sleep but not too much. Try to avoid sugar. Highly sweetened foods tend to make you crave more.
Drink six to eight glasses of water a day. Water itself helps cut down on water retention because it acts as a diuretic. Taken before meals, it dulls 20 the appetite by giving you that "full feeling." Diet with a buddy. Support groups are important, and caring people can help one another succeed. Start your own, even with just one other person.
Substitute activity for eating. When the cravings hit, go to the "Y" or health club if possible; or dust, or walk around the block. This is especially helpful if you eat out of anger.
If the pie on the counter is just too great a temptation and you don't want to throw it away, freeze it. If you're a late-night eater, have a carbohydrate, such as a slice of bread of a cracker, before bedtime to cut down on cravings. Keep an orange slice or a glass of water by your bed to quiet the hunger pangs that wake you up.
If you use food as a reward, establish a new reward system. Buy yourself a non-edible reward. Write down everything you eat - - everything - including what you taste when you cook. If you monitor what you eat, you can't go off your diet.
Weigh yourself once a week at the same time. Your weight fluctuates constantly and you can weigh more at night than you did in the morning, a downer if you stuck to your diet all day. Make dining an event. East from your own special plate, on your own special placemat, and borrow the Japanese art of food arranging to make your meal, no matter how meager, look lovely. This is a trick that helps chronic over-eaters and bingers pay attention to their food instead of consuming it unconsciously.
Don't shop when you're hungry. You'll only buy more fattening food. Avoid finger foods that are easy to eat in large amounts. Avoid consuming large quantities of fattening liquids, which are so easy to overdo. And this includes alcoholic beverages. Keep plenty of crunchy foods like raw vegetables and air-popped fat-free popcorn on hand. They're high in fiber, satisfying and filling. Leave something on your plate, even if you are a
charter member of the Clean The Plate Club. It's a good sign that you can stop eating when you want to, not just when your plate is empty.
Lose weight for yourself, not to please your husband, your parents or your friends. Make the kitchen off-limits at any time other than mealtime. Always eat at the table, never in front of the TV set or with the radio on.
Concentrate on eating every mouthful slowly and savouring each morsel. Chew everything from 10 to 20 times and count! Never skip meals.

How To Apply Make Up
Learning and then knowing how to apply makeup is a very useful thing for any woman. All or in the very least, most women want to look their best and put a little effort into how they portray themselves to another at some stage of their life.
Knowing how to apply makeup is a valuable tip when you want to attract a member of the opposite sex. Many men actually appreciate a woman taking the time to apply makeup and make themselves quite appealing to look at.
As you learn how to apply makeup, you will become more aware of other things, like your skin tone and condition. You will before you begin to apply makeup, make sure you have a top quality moisturizer for your face. Never wear makeup with this. You could in fact end up drying out your skin. So apply your moisturizer and then prepare to learn how to apply your other makeup.
First you may wish to apply some concealer. This is a product you dab in places where you may be a little blotchy looking or have redness, or a blemish. This is not to be used to cover your whole face. Once you have applied the concealer (if you chose to use concealer), you then need to apply your foundation makeup.
Knowing how to apply foundation makeup is important, or you could end up leaving streaks of makeup in the wrong places. This is not a good look. With a makeup sponge or your fingertip, spread the foundation makeup over your face using an upwards motion. This keeps the foundation makeup going on smoothly and evenly. Once you have learnt how to successfully apply your foundation, you will be ready for the next step. You could at this stage, choose to cover your foundation makeup with a makeup powder. This is usually a color slightly lighter than the color of your foundation. Always when applying foundation, see a pharmacist or makeup specialist first and purchase the correct coloring for your own skin tone. You do not want your makeup to look too dark. The closest to natural the better. On knowing how to apply your foundation and

up. It is a great product and caps off your eye make up. It is the
final step when applying eye make up. Some mascaras even curl
your lashes to give a dramatic effect. Just take care when you
apply this eye make up.
Ensure that you have applied you foundation evenly over your
whole face. Use concealer around your eyes to hide any
unevenness or puffiness around or under the eyes. Start with the
eye shadow. Make sure you apply a light colored eye shadow over
the entire lid then start from the bottom of the lid and work you way
up. Layer the color so it looks blended. Start with your darkest
color first and move into your lighter colors as you move up your
eyelid. Next apply the eye liner. Make a nice neat line directly
under the eye. Make sure it blends in nicely and don't put it on too
heavy. You can line the top of the eye but if you have on eye
shadow that will suffice for the upper lid and you should just leave
the shadow there and go without the liner on top.
The finishing touch is the mascara. Take the long brush out of the
mascara only once. Don't be tempted to dip it back in a couple
times. Using the brush start at the base of the lash on the inside of
the eye stroke the lashes outwards and upwards. This should coat
the lashes with mascara. Do the same with the bottom lashes. If
you feel like you need 2 coats then feel free to continue the above
step again. Let the lashes dry for a few seconds and stand back
and admire your work. Use a tissue to wipe away any mistakes
you may have made.
Don't forget to take your eye make up right off at the end of the
night before you retire to sleep.

Eye Shadow
There is an array of colors available from the most department stores when it comes to eye make ups. Some eye shadows are sold in bulk in make up cases. I will explain to you how to apply eye shadow make up. There are always a variety of colors, however, don't buy an entire make up case if it is only the eye shadow that you want, and besides the particular color you are looking for might not be in there. Eye make up is also sold in compacts and as sets, but if you are looking for a particular color then it may be best to buy the single color. A good idea is to make sure that you have an assortment of clothes to wear with that particular color so you can use the eye shadow make up more than once.Eyeliner
Once again a good range of colors can be applied, in both pencil and liquid liners, are available with black being the most widely used. I will now tell you how to apply eye liner make up. Liquid liner is like a paintbrush, to apply this eye make up, you brush on a thin layer of liquid that dries and lines the eye. You don't have to use liquid liner when you apply this type of make up. If you have an unsteady hand, then you are better to use the good old pencil to apply eye liner make up. The beauty of the liquid liner is you don't have to sharpen anything.Mascara

Children and the Need for Physical Activity Fact Sheet
Children in the U.S. today are less fit than they were a generation ago and showing early signs of cardiovascular disease such as weight gain, higher serum cholesterol, and cigarette smoking.
Even though heart attack and stroke are rare in children, evidence suggests that the process leading to those conditions begins in childhood.
The 1987 National Children and Youth Fitness Study indicates that at least half of youth don't engage in physical activity that promotes longterm health and that less than 36 percent of elementary and secondary schools offer daily PE classes and that most classes were unlikely to foster lifelong physical activity.
A fitness testing program sponsored by the Chrysler Fund Amateur Athletic Union, which tracks fitness among 9.7 million youngsters between the ages of 6 and 17, shows that children are getting slower in endurance running and are getting weaker.
Since 1980 there has been a 10 percent drop off on scores for distance runs and an 11 percent decline in youngsters who achieved at least a satisfactory" score on the entire test.
The National Health Examination Survey found that as many as one in five children between the ages of 6 and 17 are overweight. From 1963 to 1980 obesity increased 54 percent among children 6 to 11 and 39 percent in adolescents 12 to 17. 16
14.2 million girls and 12.8 million boys age 19 and under have serum cholesterol levels of 170 mg./dl or higher. High serum cholesterol is most prevalent among African-American girls of all ages.
An estimated 2.1 million adolescents age 12 to 17 are smokers. Nine million American children under age five live with at least one smoker and are exposed to second-hand smoke for virtually the whole day. It is
estimated that 3,000 American young people become smokers every day.
Children spend an average of 17 hours a week watching TV in addition to the time they spend on video and computer games.
Inactive children are more likely to become inactive adults.
The following good health practices should be promoted among children:
regular physical activity
a low-fat, low-cholesterol diet after the age of two
smoking prevention
appropriate weight for height
regular pediatric medical checkups

Set The Preferences for the way you work
The Preferences menu option includes ten options for Photoshop and one for Camera Raw. All the Photoshop-specific preferences are accessed through different panes in the main Preferences dialog box. Although you can work with the default settings, changing some of these can make your computer run more efficiently or make working with your projects easier. For example, by default, Photoshop is set to use more than half of the available RAM. You can lower this setting to fit the amount of RAM installed in the computer and the number of applications you run at the same time. You can change the default colors for the guides and grid when they are similar to those in your image. Designating an additional plug-ins folder keeps third-party items separate from those included with Photoshop. You can set a separate scratch disk to speed up your work on large files and set Photoshop to automatically launch Bridge.
Read through each Preferences pane and select the settings to make Photoshop work for you.
1 Click Photoshop (Edit).
2 Click Preferences.
3 Click General.
The General Preferences dialog box appears.

Baby Crying
Communication - that's what a baby's crying is for. This sweet thing that suddenly turn into a fit of tears is just craving for your sweeter attention. All cultures in the world nod to this pattern all infants are accustomed to.
A baby cries the most during his or her first three months. Though the amount of crying steadily increase, the crying time period may vary from an hour to most of the day and this could still be considered within normal range. Like, whoah, right? Babies are also known as howling tear factories.
Some thought that a baby cries more during the afternoon accounting it to the anxiousness of the mother or the stressed mood of the father after going home from work. But the most accepted assumption now is that babies have this automatic screening ability they use to shut off all the noise that may stimulate some response from them so they could get enough rest. But in the long run, this filter weakens and totally disappears during the approximate age of six weeks. This, then, make a baby very sensitive to the external factors such as noise, movements, etc. And these generally elicit a reaction from a baby and how best could he or she respond but only through crying.
There are many reasons why a baby succumbs to crying. Deciphering these reasons is the major feat a parent must surmount. Here are some of the things your sweetsome baby is making you understand through crying.
Hunger. Yes, your attention-hungry baby is craving to let you know that his tummy is grumbling. This is the most common reason for a baby to cry, especially, during his early months. The pattern of the hunger howl could be characterized as being persistent, demanding and almost rhythmical. But that rhythm is not at any rate close to becoming musical, of course.
Boredom. What can I say? Aren't these babies just plain spoiled? Crying because of boredom, errr, I'd find that a bit more twisted or weird if it's with an adult that is. But babies are really built like this. Crying is their way of telling you, "Hey get me a life here!" Aside from attention and food, consequently, babies need a lot of stimulation. And when they don't get this, there you get your waaaaaaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhhhh!!! The trick is to pick the baby up and play with him. This move may be frowned upon by some because of its amounting to spoiling the baby. But it is important to know that stimulation is also one of the major necessities of an infant and it won't hurt to provide him with some while in his growing age. This boredom cry is said to be also rhythmical and full of sobs and moans.
Discomfort. Pain is another precursor of the baby's crying. Who won't cry when in pain, right? Babies are not Major Paynes to endure the most excruciating discomfort they could undergo. They are little, vulnerable beings that need to be attended to when injured or when in an inconvenient situation. This cry could be more persistent, louder and more demanding. Shrieking and screaming, those are words that better describe the crying pattern roused by pain.
Another cause may be disturbance; surely, howling will proceed just when they're about to sleep or are already fast asleep and suddenly gets surprised by some noise, or movement. An illness that causes discomfort to a baby may also be the reason for a baby's bursting into fit of tears.

Programs based on Arts can improve academic achievement and decrease the tendency towards delinquency. It helps youth form positive attitudes about themselves and build self-esteem.
Arts programs involve communication, interpretation and understanding of complex symbols, much like mathematics and languages. Thus it fosters higher-order analytical skills and skills of evaluation and synthesis. Many of the programs make the child regularly use multiple skills thus making him dynamic and versatile.
Development of imagination, judgment and philosophy are fringe benefits of an arts-based activity. As opposed to the short 45-minute duration of the art classes at school, the extra time allowed in after school activities allows the child to get more involved. This results in more satisfactory opportunities for development of latent capabilities in the child. In turn, the child learns to set high standards of achievement. He understands what sustained focus is and learns that regular practice is the way to excellence.
In the shy or the withdrawn child, theatre, speech or drama lessons may be an outlet for pent up emotions. As drama entails getting into the 'skin' of another person, the child learns to verbalize emotions and express thoughts. These reasons account for the popularity of arts-based activities.

Helping Yourself with Depression Help
If you're currently feeling so out of it, totally out of your normal system and just basically hating and ignoring almost, always everything and anyone that comes along, try to get yourself checked by a psychiatrist because you those little mood swings and erratic Ally McBeal-ish behavior that you're trying to ignore for some long may actually be symptoms of depression. Act fast because if you do, it'll certainly be a lot harder for you to be able to have yourself cured from this illness, especially once self-delusion starts to kick in.
Actually start by hauling your depressed ass into the hospital and get yourself diagnosed by a reputable psychiatrist, one that'll actually help you with your depression concerns, answer all the possible questions that you may have when it comes to depression as well as provide you with the best available to depression treatment that'll make you give yourself some good-old, yet extremly effective depression help. All it needs is the right attitude.
After actually being honest with yourself when it comes to actually being a patient who is suffering from depression, quit turning youself into a victim and find out from these various types of depression the actual one that you're suffering from: Manic or Bipolar depression - characterized by sudden and extreme changes in one's mood wherein one minute he or she is in an elevated state of euphoria while the next minute (day or week) he or she is feeling to be in a personal hell, Postpartum depression - characterized by a prolonged sadness and a feeling of emptiness by a new mother wherein physical stress during child birth, an uncertain sense of responsibility towards the new born baby can be just some of the possible factors why some new mother go through this, Dysthimia - characterized by a slight similarity with depression, although this time, it's been proven to be a lot less severe, but of course with any case, should be treated immediately, Cyclothemia - characterized by a slight similarity with Manic or Bipolar depression wherein the individual suffering from this mental illness may occasionally suffer from severe changes in one's moods, Seasonal Affective Disorder - characterized by falling in a rut only during specific seasons (i.e. Winter, Spring, Summer or Fall) studies however, prove that more people actually fall in to a rut more during the Winter and Fall seasons and lastly, Mood swings, wherein a person's mood may shift from happy to sad to angry in just a short time. But in spite of how scary or how daunting a task is the road towards a sound mental health is, depression help abounds and is just up to you if you’re willing to take in some of that depression help, may it be from your family, friends, support group and mainly starting from yourself, there really is a lot of depression help to go around.
The old adage, slowly but surely greatly applies in trying to treat depression, as the patient continues taking the prescribed medicines for his/her depression treatment, as well as the corresponding therapy sessions with the cognitive behavior therapist, a patient being treated from depression needs all the support and depression help that he or she can get.
While being treated for depression, the patient as well as his or her family and other loved ones are advised to make realistic goals concerning depression wherein, to not assume that their depression can be easily treated in a snap. Depression help begins with trying to understand the patient’s situation and continue on being patient as well as always extending your help because depression help is never easy nor is the depression treatment itself, which is why both patients and loved ones need to help each other out through every step of the way. Never set goals that are high above your reach, give yourself some depression help by not being too hard on yourself, believe that you are good and strong enough to achieve your goals but only one step at a time.

For Maximum Health, Pay Attention to Two Things
I read something yesterday that I thought you might appreciate. It's a way of thinking about health -- a two-pronged approach to staying healthy that comes from naturopathy, a healing system postulating that disease occurs when one of the body's basic functions breaks down.
Two of the body's most basic functions are digestion and elimination -- eating and, well, you know.
The basic idea is this: If you give your body what it really needs and help it eliminate toxins, you will be and stay healthy. You will increase your vitality, reduce your chances of getting sick, and rid yourself of any physical problems you currently have.
It's hard to disagree with this in theory. After all, what could affect a natural organism more than what that organism takes into itself for fuel? And who wouldn't want to rid his body of poisons?
How good are you at following this simple, two-part program? What about your input? Do you consume good stuff or are you filling yourself full of toxic crap? From what I've read, I believe that sugar is the single greatest "input" problem modern eaters have. Refined sugar is omnipresent. It's in cakes, cookies, and candies, of course, but it's also in fruits, fruit juices, canned goods (including, sometimes, vegetables and meats), packaged goods, medicines, etc.
Starches -- and particularly refined carbohydrates -- are also poison. Yet government and medical health professionals recommend we eat this junk four or five times a day. Chemicals and chemically infused animal products are also ubiquitous and harmful. Yet they are hardly talked about in the health media.
